Frequently Asked Questions.
What does a doula do?
A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy,
labor, and postpartum. I’m here to guide you through the process, answer your questions, and help you feel confident and empowered in your decisions. While I don’t perform medical tasks, I work alongside your care team to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
How is a doula different from my OB or midwife?
An OB or midwife is a medical professional trained to provide prenatal care, deliver babies, and handle medical needs during labor. A doula, on the other hand, focuses on non-medical support, such as helping you stay comfortable, advocating for your preferences, and providing encouragement and reassurance throughout your journey.
When should I hire a doula?
It’s best to hire a doula early in your pregnancy to ensure availability and give us plenty of time to build a relationship. However, I can provide valuable support at any stage, even if you’re nearing your due date. Reach out as soon as you feel ready to explore your options!
Will a doula take the place of my partner during labor?
Not at all! A doula complements the role of your partner by offering guidance, suggestions, and support so they can be as involved as they feel comfortable. Together, we create a team to help you feel supported and cared for throughout your birth experience.
What if I’m planning a medicated or cesarean birth?
A doula can support you no matter what type of birth you’re planning. Whether you choose an epidural, a planned cesarean, or are aiming for an unmedicated birth, my role is to help you feel informed, confident, and supported in your choices. Every birth deserves care and encouragement!
